According to recent data from CoreLogic, home prices in Atlanta became more affordable during October making the fourth quarter a unique opportunity to invest in property.

The CoreLogic October Home Price Index indicated that home prices dipped 7.9 percent in October when compared to a year earlier. This comes after home prices in the city slid 8.2 percent in September when compared to 2010 levels.

Meanwhile, overall national home prices were down 3.9 percent during October.

"Home prices continue to decline in response to the weak demand for housing," said CoreLogic chief economist Mark Fleming. "While many housing statistics are basically moving sideways, prices continue to correct for a supply and demand imbalance."

Looking forward, forecasts indicate flat growth through 2013, he added.

However, as homes for sale in Atlanta continue to become more affordable, a recent survey from HomeGain indicates that 43 percent of real estate professionals believe that home prices will remain stable during the next six months – a potential sign that the housing market has hit rock bottom and could see improvements in the new year.
