Rochester home prices lower during latest rolling quarter

Home prices in Rochester, New York, fell on quarterly and annual bases, according to Clear Capital's latest housing report.

During the quarter ending in September, home prices in Rochester declined nearly 1 percent from the previous rolling quarter. Additionally, prices decreased from the same period in 2010 by 0.2 percent.

According to the report, of the markets surveyed, Rochester experienced the sixth-highest drop in home prices during the period, potentially making the area appealing for homebuyers looking for low-priced deals.

In terms of the home price situation nationally, Dr. Alex Villacorta, director of Research and Analytics with Clear Capital, stated it affordable home prices may stay that way in many markets during the rest of 2011 and possibly the beginning of next year.

A separate report regarding the Rochester-area housing market indicates prices have remained low throughout most of the year.

The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors reported the median sales price of homes bought during the second quarter was $120,000 – roughly the same figure from a year earlier.
