The details of the recently restructured Home Affordable Refinance Program are still coming into focus, but economists from the University of Las Vegas says that many homeowners will soon be eligible for help, the Las Vegas CBS news affiliate KLAS-TV reports.
The UNLV economists predict that 70 percent of Nevadans could soon be eligible to refinance and restructure their mortgage payments as long as they stay current on their loans.
One local Las Vegas resident of Bonita Hills revealed to the news source that he bought a home in 2005 for $175,000, but now with less available construction work, he's struggling to make his payments. President Barack Obama recently visited the Bonita Hills neighborhood to unveil Project Rebuild, which will remove obstacles and allow more homeowners to refinance.
"With the President coming out here, hopefully it will inspire the private sector to make more advances and put that effort out there to help these people who are desperately needy," Eric Chavez with Housing for Nevada told KLAS.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac currently owns 3,700 homes in Clark County, where Las Vegas resides. Many homes loans are backed by the mortgage giants and will be eligible for refinance, said the news source.
Homeowners and buyers alike in Washington, D.C. may be in for a bit of surprise due to recent changes in the city's housing market, The Washington Post reports.
During years of housing market turmoil, many of these players chose to hunker down and wait for the market to stabilize, but with the market looking up, many might be thinking it's time to make a move. According to the latest Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller Home Price Index, the Washington, D.C. residential real estate sector experienced an improvement in home prices of 1.6 percent from July and 0.3 percent from August 2010.
"Inside the Beltway, it is somewhat balanced between a buyer's and a seller's market because there are fewer buyers out there and less inventory," local real estate agent Jamie Koppersmith told The Post.
In many sought-after neighborhoods in the District, properties are worth almost as much as they were between 2005 and 2007, and in August, median home prices reached 88 percent of their peak value. With stable home prices and low mortgage rates it may seem like a buyers market, but relatively equal supply and demand, has made the housing market much more competitive, says the news source.
For Sale is a used 2008 model Shelter Designs 16′ Eco-Yurt. This particular yurt used to be Shelter Designs demo/office yurt that was setup at their shop located in northwest Montana. I bought this yurt from them during the summer of 2010 while I was an employee at Shelter Designs. My wife and I spent a little under a year living in the yurt before recently moving to Bozeman. We love absolutely love this yurt and are huge fans of Shelter Designs Yurts but as we will not be in a position to setup or use the Yurt for the foreseeable future we are willing to pass this incredible living structure on to you! The yurt is currently stored in our garage in Bozeman.
The Yurt is in good condition although does shows some signs of normal wear and tear, mainly a little bit of weathering on the bottom of the door which I plan to sand and oil before we sell it. The insulation material also shows some signs of use, mainly where its been previously stapled to the door frame and ends of rafters, this is of course normal wear and tear. The yurt has a new(1 year old) roof that still has 7 years left on its warranty. The yurt originally had a prototype roof material on it that we replaced with a Pro Shield roof when we bought it, so the roof still has a little under 7 years left on its warranty.

I enjoy watching Kirsten Dirksen's videos from faircompanies.com highlighting unique and creative ways people have learned to live simply. Checkout this story and video of Fiver Brown, a musician that lives on a boat in San Francisco.
Fiver Brown is a musician and the kind of guy who has worked as a rodeo clown, a sushi photographer and a pirate, so he couldn't really afford to buy a home in his current hometown of Sausalito with an average home price of 2.2 million dollars. So he bought a boat.
Technically, he bought a floating home. It's a former WWII lifeboat that had been converted into a small home and docked at one of the town's historic houseboat communities.
It's only 13 feet by 37 feet (481 square feet), but the views are unbeatable. He watches stingrays and birds from the galley/kitchen and from his lofted bed he can peer down at his floating neighbors and the hills of Sausalito above.
His home is paid off- though he still pays a monthly slip rental as part of the Galilee Harbor Coop- and he's living right where he wants to be, in a town known for its arts scene.
