Nearly 10 years ago, Lower Manhattan was ravaged by the terrorist attacks of 9/11. However, since that day, the region's residential population has doubled and investments have increased significantly, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently stated.

Overall, the region has added 19 hotels and invested $552 million in new parks during the past 10 years, Bloomberg relayed.

"The rebirth and revitalization of Lower Manhattan will be remembered as one of the greatest comeback stories in American history," Bloomberg told executives and political leaders recently at a breakfast commemorating the anniversary of 9/11.

Bloomberg further explained that the last 10 years were a time when "we didn't know when – or how – our city would ever recover." However, the recent analysis proves the region is as strong as ever and may continue to attract property seekers looking for homes for sale.

Co-chairman of Goldman Sachs, John Whitehead, recently expressed his own surprise regarding Lower Manhattan's bounce-back. Whitehead stated at the meeting that he had his doubts about the area recovering, however, the worst was at the beginning. Whitehead supervised the planning and financing of the area's rebuilding process between 2001 and 2006.
