FHFA: Home prices increase in July



According to a recent release from the Federal Housing Finance Agency, home prices increased between June and July, climbing 0.8 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis.
The FHFA House Price Index also revised its figure from June, as prices increased 0.7 percent, which is lower than the originally reported 0.9 percent.
During the 12 months leading up to July, the FHFA reports that home prices fell 3.3 percent. Furthermore, the index is now 18.4 percent below its peak set in April 2007, and is now comparable to its level recorded in March 2004.
By region, the South Atlantic performed the worst during July, recording the only decrease in price, as values fell 0.4 percent. This area includes Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Conversely, the best-performing region was the West North Central, where prices increased 3.6 percent. This area includes North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri.
The East South Central region, which includes Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama, also performed well, with prices jumping 3 percent.
